INFIDELITY MARRIAGE INTENSIVE

An affair can shatter everything you thought you knew about your marriage. It doesn't have to determine what happens next.

Thousands of couples around the world have trusted Michele Weiner-Davis to help them navigate seemingly impossible relationship problems.

DISCOVERING THE AFFAIR

The pain you’re in right now is like no other.

You may be consumed by questions, anger, fear and images you can't get out of your mind.

The ruminating is exhausting.

You may be checking phones, replaying conversations, searching for answers and wondering what was real about your life with your spouse and what wasn't.

One minute you want desperately to save your marriage. The next, you wonder how you could ever trust your spouse—or your own judgment—again.

Some days, it’s hard to get out of bed. The betrayal feels traumatic. Your mind and body feel like they’re on fire.

And if you're the one who had the affair, you may desperately want to repair the damage but have no idea how.

You may feel ashamed, defensive, overwhelmed by the questions, or frustrated that nothing you say seems to make things better.

You may both be exhausted by conversations that go around and around and leave you feeling worse than when you started. And you find yourself wondering why you made these choices in the first place. Right now, it’s hard to imagine how things could possibly get better.

But there is a way out of this pain.

Couples come to Michele after years of unsuccessful therapy, when one spouse wants out, after infidelity, or when there's little hope left.

STUCK IN A WORLD OF PAIN

YOU WANT TO GET YOUR LIFE BACK, BUT YOU DON’T KNOW HOW.

You may have talked about the affair for hours, days, or months. You may have read books, listened to podcasts, talked to friends or even tried marriage counseling.

But somehow, nothing seems to change. There may be a few good hours or days, but the bad feelings are always lurking in the background.

You just want to feel normal again.

The betrayed partner still has questions and needs reassurance. The partner who had the affair may feel that no matter how many times they answer, apologize or try to explain, it’s never enough.

So you have the same conversations over and over again.

One of you pushes for more answers. The other, believing that endlessly talking about the affair isn’t helping, shuts down, wants to move on or becomes defensive.

And even when your conversations are more constructive, being comforted by the very person who hurt you can feel crazy-making.

Instead of bringing you closer, your attempts to heal can leave you both feeling even more disconnected.

Sometimes you think it would just be easier to give up.

It’s not because your marriage can’t heal. You may simply need a different, more effective path forward.

WHAT SHOULD I DO NEXT?

WHY A MARRIAGE INTENSIVE AFTER INFIDELITY?

When your marriage has been rocked by an affair, waiting a week between therapy sessions can feel like an eternity.

And just when you finally get to the heart of something important, your 50-minute session is over. You just can’t get any traction.
A two-day intensive gives us something weekly therapy simply can’t: time.

Time to slow things down.

Time for both of you to really feel heard.

Time to peel away the layers and get answers to important questions.

Time to understand how the affair happened
without blaming the person who was betrayed.

Time to focus on just the two of you with no distractions.

And most importantly, time to figure out exactly    what needs to happen now.
When you’re in this much pain, you don’t want to wait months to start feeling better.

EXPERIENCE MATTERS. ESPECIALLY WHEN YOUR MARRIAGE IS IN CRISIS

WHO YOU CHOOSE MAKES A DIFFERENCE

A marriage intensive isn't simply regular marriage therapy squeezed into two days.

It requires knowing where to focus, when to dig deeper, when to change direction, and how to work with two people who may be in very different places about their marriage.

I’ve spent nearly 50 years helping couples in crisis and have worked with thousands of couples devastated by infidelity.

I’ve trained thousands of therapists, written extensively about affair recovery, including my book Healing from Infidelity, and devoted my career to helping couples find their way back to each other—even when one person has nearly given up.

Over the years, I’ve learned a great deal about what helps couples heal—and what keeps them stuck.

But perhaps most importantly, I know there is no single right way to heal from an affair.

Every person is different.

Every couple is different.

There are many infidelity recovery programs and classes that offer the same advice and strategies to every couple.

That advice might be exactly what the couple down the street needs—but completely wrong for you and your spouse.

My work with you is different.

Everything we do is tailored to the two of you—your marriage, your history, your personalities, your tender spots, your strengths, and what will actually work in your lives.

When your marriage is hanging in the balance, experience matters.

HOW DOES THIS WORK?

WHAT HAPPENS DURING AN INFIDELITY MARRIAGE INTENSIVE?

When we meet, I learn about your relationship, what happened, where each of you stands now, what’s been helpful, what hasn’t, and what you most need help with.

Then, during our two days together, we focus on the issues that are keeping you stuck.
That might mean helping the betrayed partner get answers without conversations spiraling out of control, understanding why the affair happened—not to excuse it, but to reduce the chances of it happening again—or addressing anger, defensiveness, trust, intimacy, and the painful thoughts and images that can dominate your relationship.
Although understanding what went wrong is extremely important, knowing what you need to do next to get your lives back is even more important.
And because we have two full days together, we have the time to go where your particular situation takes us.

TESTIMONIALS

COUPLES FIND THEIR WAY BACK TO EACH OTHER

Years later, couples still write to tell me how their marriages—and families—were changed forever.

In the wake of learning of my husband’s affair I began searching the internet for resources to help me work through my pain and to find a path forward.

I knew I still loved him but I didn’t know how I would get through it.

I also didn’t have the energy or patience to work through my pain in 50-minute sessions for months on end.

A 2-day intensive program with Michele was the best thing we could have done.

We learned so much about ourselves and each other. We peeled back the layers of our 30-year relationship and were able to identify behaviors that led to our problems.

In 2 days!!

It’s been almost 6 months since our time with Michele and we continue to move forward with rebuilding our relationship...

The pain is not completely gone but I am starting to feel like myself again, the joy is returning, and the triggers don’t have a hold on me any longer.

I think of our two-day intensive as a turning point in our marriage—it was transformative.

I walked into Michele’s office feeling fragile and hurt after my husband’s affair.

We had already been through couples therapy for over a year.

Michele is like no other.

She has the perfect mix of empathy and smarts.

She asks very pointed questions about what makes you hurt, what you need in a relationship, and how each of you can be better.

I remember flying home after the two days feeling that we had entered a new phase in our marriage.

We still had work to do, but we were now on our journey toward recovery and renewal
