Thanks everyone for all your input. It's funny. We all have our different sitch's, yet somehow they all seem so similar. I think it really is text book stuff in regards to how they act and what they do.
Talking about our S's going for inferior models. The day my W took OM to visit her parents, my MIL absolutely went off at my W in front of the family (not OM). She told her "I'm pushing 60 and I wouldn't kiss that dropkick!" I have never heard her us the "Dropkick" description before (a sporting term where you kick the leather off a rugby ball for minimal points pretty much).

I'm in the Triangle area -- thus about equi-distant between mountains and beaches. My two most favorite places to visit here are Asheville (access to mountains) and Ocracoke Island (some of the best rated beaches in the world). And Wrightsville Beach is an easy day-trip from here.
I guess I have to concur that even in my own case, my W is trading down for OM.
I've never seen the SOB in person (funny how that worked out. W's known him for 11 years in her work, but has introduced me to nearly everyone else in her place of employment except this guy.) However, I do have photos of the OM that W was keeping of him from a beach vacation he took last year.
I can say I am just an average looking person myself -- nothing to write home about. (It's hard to give an objective opinion of one's self -- I guess I would be something like a nerdy but athletic looking type.)
But seeing the pictures of the OM and how fat and overweight he is, makes me wonder about W's sanity. It's a little insulting to me, to be frank. If I had to describe him I'd say he was a cross between Junior Samples and Chris Farley. Sort of like a grotesque Larry the Cable Guy with none of the charm.
I love how Ohio_Mark refers to the OM in his sitch as "Shrek". It fits my W's OM to a tee as well.
I feel like I need to come up with something clever like that. I have at one time given the moniker of "Jabba the Hut" to OM in describing him to my brother.
