Hi everyone

I know someone started a running thread a while back, but would you guys like to start a regular exercise thread to help motivate us this new year?

I have to admit, I hate reading up on Facebook about all the people that ran the marathon and competed in iron mans while I went shopping or did my 15 min yoga tape, (don't you just love the word schadenfreude? smile ) but I know I would feel different about all your successes!

Not sure how to organize it though.

My goals are basically to increase my cardio endurance (have to wait till my cold goes away) and get more muscular and maintain my weight loss. I noticed since being less miserable, I gained 4 lbs back over the holiday. I squeeze in some exercise at work, but now that it's super cold I really have to join gym and get more intense. This gives me a lot of confidence so I just have to do it.

Im in. smile

My goals are to lose 30 pounds and tone up.

I'll have to post again when I figure out how I will actually go about doing both.

I really am enjoying these positive threads.

Thanks Julie

Um...that "someone" was none other than Maybell, aka 'She believed she could, so she did.'

Just kidding around with you Julie. Great idea. I'm not in yet, but I will try to get there soon!

Rain, been hearing about good results with this container diet. I don't know why the hell I never thought to market something like that. So simple!

In the past I used the same mind set to eliminate sugar and carbs as I did to stop pursuing my husband. I told myself 3-5 days to break the sugar addiction. Take it day by day and get through it week by week. I ended up feeling sick if I ate a dessert because it was too sweet and inreally developed a great appreciation for the healthy fats. I couldn't wait to eat my tb spoon of peanut butter and hummus.
It was great but I became a bit too intense. I would feel guilty about eating fruit or God forbid using ketchup!

I do find the complete elimination of bad foods works better for me then only allowing myself 1 cookie.

Thanks. I've never heard of it but I'll be sure to look it up. I had amazing success in my 20s with the Fit for Life diet. Maybe I still have the book somewhere.

I'm happy to throw ideas or answer questions in here any time I can for you all. This is what I've done for almost a decade for work - and done so quite successfully.

There is a TON that can be accomplished without equipment or with minimal equipment. Getting in shape and losing weight aren't always the same thing and can be approached separately or together.

Shape happens with training, weight loss happens in the kitchen and outside of training.

This thread is a great idea, but nothing is more important than an accountability buddy. Find someone here or in your life that will absolutely hold you accountable to being consistent and sticking to a realistic plan.

I'm extraordinarily motivated and literally worked in a gym for years and I still had a training partner that would give me a hard time on the days when I wanted to skip working out for any reason.

Julie - this is a great idea! Just today, Jpeg was on my thread asking for indoor exercise activity ideas. She absolutely loved hot yoga, but was going to have to do something at home for the time being and was looking for ideas.

Sadly, I had nothing. I'll definitely point her this direction if she doesn't see it on her own. In the meantime, got any ideas? I recently bought a line-dancing video, just because I love to dance, and line dancing is hard for me to pick up on the spot. That definitely works up a sweat I hardly notice. I'm usually having so much fun, or really concentrating on what I'm doing, I fail to notice I'm getting tired.

Pig pen, accountability buddy is great idea for staying consistent. Especially when weather makes it harder. Consistency is the hardest thing so was gonna use thread to help with accountability.

Ancaire: I believe for fat burning any form of exercise that gets your heart rate up to 60 to 70 percent of max heart rate is necessary 30 min a day. ( But I know you would have to discuss with cardiologist). I love dancing too! I like postural and core stabilization exercises best, and find them easy to incorporate throughout day.

Personally, I need to improve cardio endurance and would like to build muscle tone. In my older age I prefer exercises that are gentler on my body (yoga, pilates) then I did when I was a lot younger. But my problem is i don't challenge myself enough. My goals is gonna be to get 4 days of 30 min cardio for the next week plus my usual core stuff.

PP,

I know there is a philosophy out there of being able to exercise without using carbs- sugars fat adapted rather than a sugar burner. I am thinking about building up to do a long distance cycling event, but I don't want to do it on gels and drinks, or other sugars/carbs. I want to stay Paelo to do it. Any suggestions.

Would it also work for prep for a kettle bell class twice per week?

Thanks PP.
