I recently finished your book, Getting Through to the Man You Love.... (Formerly titled, A Woman's Guide to Changing Her Man) I was so skeptical at first, but then I made a few adjustments in my behavior and the results were amazing!!!!
First off, I have been married for a little over a year and my husband and I recently had our first baby. So we have had some huge life changes all within our first year of marriage. I felt as though our love life was becoming extinct and we were drifting apart. I told my mother about my concerns, our arguements, etc. She kept telling me, "You should be nicer to him." Great simple advice. Then my mother heard about your book on a radio program and bought the book for me over amazon.com for Christmas. So I read your book and realized that I had become a henpeck wife. Yuck!!! Exactly the kind of wife I thought I would never be.
I made a list of the top 5 annoying behaviors that I do, that drive my husband nuts. I decided to start there. 1) I nag him about his office clutter all over the house (he works out of our home). 2) I carry on conversations with him when he is not in the same room with me and he has to walk across the house to see what I want. 3) I talk to him when he is trying to catch up on reading the Wall Street Journal. 4) I nag him about not being interested in making love. 5) I tend to order him around, ie. do this, get me that.
One night I concentrated on fixing these five problem areas. Instead of nagging him about all the messes that he left all over the house, I greeted him at the door lovingly with our little baby girl. Yeah, Daddy is home, kisses etc. I let him read his paper, fixed him dinner and kept a low profile. Soon he was cuddling up on the couch with me asking me about my day! Later that week while we were both reading on the couch, he would occasionally share an interesting article that he was reading and we would discuss it. He also began picking up his dirty clothes that he left laying around the house, because I vowed to myself that I would not touch them. I just let them pile up and he eventually noticed them and put them in the laundry room. He also initiated sex for the first time in...a long, long time!!!! Inside I was laughing and rejoicing. I called my mom and thanked her for this wonderful book. So I also wanted to let you know that it has made a difference in my life and my relationship with my husband....Thank you!!! ******************************************** Isn't that great????
