I was thinking the other day that a thread with recommended songs to listen to would be good to have around someplace. There's a lot of music out there that can be very beneficial. I'm not talking about the woe is me songs, but the ones that lift you up and make you stronger.

My favorite song at the moment is "Radioactive" by Imagine Dragon. I listen to it every day when I'm working out and haven't gotten sick of it yet.

So what is everyone else listening to?

Some of these are slightly on the bitter side, Alanis Morissette, for example. But some are just uplifting. And all have made me feel better at one point or another over the past year:

Pocketful of Sunshine by Natasha Bedingfield
Roar by Katy Perry
Happy by Pharrell Williams
Brave by Sara Bareilles
Forget You by Cee Lo Green
You Oughta Know by Alanis Morissette
Na Na Hey Hey by Steam
I'm Still Standing by Elton John
These Boots Are Made For Walkin by Nancy Sinatra
We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together by Taylor Swift
Stronger by Kelly Clarkson
So What by Pink
The Sign by Ace of Base
Gives You Hell by The All-American Rejects
Goodbye to You by Scandal
I Look So Good by Jessie James
Hit the Road Jack by Ray Charles
Walk Away by Kelly Clarkson
Over You by Daughtry
Dancing With Myself by Billy Idol
Since U Been Gone by Kelly Clarkson
Roll With the Changes by REO Speedwagon
Good Riddance by Green Day
Already Gone by the Eagles
I Hear You Knocking by Dave Edmunds
Picture to Burn by Taylor Swift
Feel a Whole Lot Better by Tom Petty
Done by The Band Perry

Yes, I have a thing for 80s music. Sorry for any typos.

Great minds think alike Sherman. Here's a thread I started a while ago.

Reasons To Be Cheerful, Part 3

I was considering Walk Like A Man by Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons (maybe) but it does sound a bit like he's been castrated.

I listen to a lot of techno music. There is one song called
"Your Son Needs You" by an artist Mr. L.

"Sons" would be more appropriate.

After BD I couldn't stand a lot of sentimental music. I upped my exercise playlist with some Metallica, Five Finger Death Punch, old school rap from my high school/college days (like Ice Cube). Anything to keep me pumped up.

A few weeks after BD, when I could listen to music again, I created a breakup playlist. It was full of sentimental music and I couldn't listen to anything upbeat, but I did add a few over time. I stopped listening to the playlist after about 3 months. My listening habits now have reverted to my pre-BD days.

The song that I consider my breakup song is This is the last time by The National.

I wish everybody knew
What's so great about you
Oh, but your love is such a swamp
You don't think before you jump
I said I wouldn't cry again
I guess I did

Other notable songs from the playlist.

Joey, Concrete Blonde
Mr. Brightside, The Killers
Just another girl, The Killers
Hard enough, Brandon Flowers
Heartbreak warfare, John Mayer
Who's gonna ride your wild horses, U2

Ironically, a song that we listened to a lot the previous summer was "The writing's on the wall" by OK GO (they have the best videos). It's about a guy noticing that his couple is just about done. I would shake my butt and sing along for months, clueless. I even posted the video on Facebook and I post like six times a year.

It's interesting to discover each others' personality through these musical choices.
