Okay, I'm posting this from "chrome" and I didn't get the warning.

Hmmmm - Did the SSL certificate expire on the server? They do over time and some browsers are "particular" about who they will talk to.

If so - a fresh certificate would solve the problem.

IMO (I do this - sort of - for a living) since the problem happened to a wide cross-section of the users that the core issue should be on the central common point and not be an issue related to the user / browser end.

Presuming that there have been no software updates on the server and that the underlying hosting / connectivity provider hasn't changed - a safe assumption I think - that leaves a database corruption issue or a communications issue. Expiring certificates fall under the latter.

I've noticed (and ignored) that browsing the site under Chrome I get a variety of info / warnings about security.

Just my 2 cents.

Andrew,

It just might be time to take the site down for a couple of days and do a complete overhaul and purge the system again. They usually take it down in late spring/early summer (if I am thinking correctly).

Everyone is trying something different to help in figuring this problem out. I don't use Chrome on a daily basis, nor do I use my phone to respond to the postings. However, the system has dropped me a couple of times as well. If the issue were characters or the use of a word document, phone, laptop, etc., it would stand to reason that more people be in this pickle of a mess.

I agree w/what you posted...but they have their own IT team looking into the matter and they could very well be based in CO. Most of the moderators are operating remotely and don't have access to the IT Team. Hopefully Virginia will read the postings about this issue and forward your suggestions on to their "paid" IT Team.

The posts I copy/paste disappear. Stuff I type straight in seems to be OK.

I used the Preview option before posting - didn't make any difference as I still lost my posts anyway.

I tend to use Chrome if that helps.

I don't know if a list is being kept on who is using what browser and if some have issues while others don't. I am using firefox and do not seem to have any issues at this point.

I do not think the problem is with the browsers that posters are using. The problem is somewhere within the system and the IT pros are working on the issue.

I have seen this issue one other time in my office and it took the IT pros several weeks to actually locate the issue. They finally had to shut down the system to users over a three day weekend in order to get to the root of the problem.

I know this has been a very frustrating week or so, but rest assured, they are working on the issue. Again, I thank you for your patience and let's hope that it is resolved very soon.

I saw this in doodlers post in surviving the Big D when he had blank postings:

The issue with the blank messages is the apostrophes and quotes in Word (maybe other characters as well). Even when you save the word document to text, it preserves the special characters for apostrophes and quotes.

I copy and pasted my Word document into Notepad++ and changed the encoding to UTF-8 and you can see, and correct, all of the special characters.
