Jill: Sorry I did not read this until now - limited Internet and all.

Takes me back to 3 years ago when I lost my mom. It is SO difficult.

You did well to make the visits you did in the past while. You will never regret that time. Good that your sis and BIL are there. You have to do what is right for you and only you can decided.

Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. I will be here if you need to talk.

Hi Everyone,
I'm leaving for FL tomorrow morning. My Dad is in and out of consciousness and he won't be with us much longer according to the nurses. He's still at home with a full time nurse now.

I'm meeting my youngest brother in Atlanta and we're traveling to FL together from there. My D23 will come a few days later.

Let me tell you about my Dad. He is actually my S-Dad but he and my Mom have been married over 30 yrs. I loved him the first moment I saw the way he looked at my Mom. I always thought he was the smartest person I'd ever known. I always consulted him about money issues, etc. There wasn't anything he couldn't fix an there was no topic that he couldn't discuss with a great deal of knowledge.. He even put a new engine in my car when I was young and broke. Whenever he'd come to visit, I'd make sure I had a list of things that needed done around the house posted on the frig because he just "had" to be doing something!!! He read "everything" he could get his hands on and loved the Harry Potter series, especially. He had so many hobbies and interests.

He never could get through a family gathering without crying because he was so happy that we were all together. He accepted my siblings and I unconditionally from the beginning. He was without a doubt the sweetest, kindest and most unselfish person I'll ever know in my life. My family has been blessed by having him in our lives.

I'm going to miss him more than I can say.

Jill,

Some of it may be exhaustion, but I'm feeling honestly a little teary at the description of your dad. Sounds like the kind of man and person we should all want to be. I hope his warmth is always apparent to you and you're in my prayers, such as they are.

That was the sweetest post and a beautiful tribute to your Dad. I'm so sorry that you are facing this and I so wish that there was something that I could say to ease your pain. So I'll just say, we all love you, and you will be in our prayers.

Love,

ahh Jilly
Now I'm crying. I know you've told me how wonderful he is and that post just cofirmed it! When we sadly think of a lot of men in our lives , and how they do not step up to the plate for their children, your father is a treasure.

Have a safe trip, please contact when you can, take care of yourself, and remember you have your friends here who are thinking of you and your family

Jill,

Our thoughts are with you and your family. Your story about your dad gives us all the true value of parenting. We sometimes forget about what matters and your story tells us exactly what matters. And it's not about bloodlines or anything like that. It's all about how we treat one another.

You were fortunate. You were surely blessed to have had a great soul like this in your life. How many people get to have that growing up?

How lucky you are.

Guys like this are far and few between. Your mom must have known and been smart enough to know that he was a keeper. They are so darned hard to find.

My thoughts are with you.
