I need to agree with you on this one HairDog. User profiles clearly provide a means of communicating an email address as well as a homepage and several different IM methods. Why restrict posting an email address directly in a post? It doesn't make sense. It is only an alternate method of communicating with each other.

I also interpret the "other personal information" as information with which you could physically locate me. My home address, job information, etc. I don't need anyone getting angry at some of my misguided advice and trying to come to look for me. ;\)

It isn't required that it make sense to you. The rules are stated and have been clarified. By virtue of continuing to post to this board you agree to abide by the rules set out by the Administration. Just as your contracts out in the real world have revisions so do rules in the internet world. You have been given the revisions. {In case you haven't they can be found here .}

I don't know for certain but my guess would be that due to the sheer number of people freaking the he!! out when they realize that their email addy posted within the text of a post is coming up in a simple google search and then demanding that their postings be deleted is at least part of the reason behind this rule.

Add to that an angry absent spouse who does the aforementioned google search, comes to the board and then wreaks havoc. I have seen it happen on this board more than once. And well...you get the picture and it isn't a pretty one.

I have had my email addy within my profile for years now. I google myself on occasion just to make sure I haven't been a dumba$$ and put info out on the internets that I don't want found. Limiting the exposure that your personal information receives is basic internet privacy 101.

I am thinking than unless someone is severely physically impaired a couple of extra clicks isn't going to affect anyone's physical wellbeing.

Look not mournfully into the past. It comes not back again. Wisely improve the present. It is thine. Go forth to meet the shadowy future, without fear. {Henry Wadsworth Longfellow}

sg,

I've been on the boards awhile and I think this is the second post I've ever had from a moderator. Funny it's mostly because I posted my email addy and asked where the new SSM board is.

I've read SSM and am aware of Michele's advice. It's the people on this board who've lived it though, and their thoughts have been invaluable to me. I haven't had a thread in awhile because my H and I are doing well, but I do come here often for encouragement and ideas... and to post to others who are struggling. Obviously if I need a thread and input from others now, I'm gonna have to figure out where they've taken up residence.
