So, HG was almost going to come with me to your party on Saturday lol. But he can't make it to Sac. \:\( Was hoping he'd "protect" me from K-fed lol. ;\) \:\) Maybe I'll wear my rings.

Looking forward to seeing you even w/o an escort. Hope you had a good dinner.

I am soo swamped at work this week but I wanted to journal last night before I forget! I will catch up with replies and with everyone else soon.

So...last night was, in a word, wonderful. After a verrryy long day at work I got home, told H it had been a long day and he said "Well at least it's about to get much better!"

He had fixed some stuff on my computer for me which was very sweet - some of the stuff I'd been tearing my hair out about on Sunday, so we checked that out. I appreciated it (and told him so).

For dinner we had talked about a few different ideas but nothing concrete, and finally settled on BBQ'ing in the park. Sonoma was a very pricey day, and I think H was pretty glad I liked this idea instead of another expensive dinner out. Plus it was way more fun. H was adament about bringing the dog with us which surprised me - he likes doing stuff with her and all but she can be somewhat of a pain, and he really wanted her to go. We packed up our picnic stuff and went to the store, then the park.

At the park the picnic bench areas were all kinda dry and dusty, so H kept walking around to find "the perfect spot, "because those benches just don't look that great, plus picnicking in the grass is way more romantic!" Found a great spot under the trees where the grass was nice and green and set up the picnic blanket and BBQ.

Nobody tattle on us OK ;\) it was a lot of fun because practically everything we did was technically "not allowed" in the park, so we got a little of that "sneaky" fix I think. We BBQ'd in the grass (with BBQ well hidden from rangers and making sure it was well watered!), drank a bottle of our wine from Sonoma (no alcohol in the park), and at one point H got this grin on his face and took off the dog's leash (also not allowed) and ran around the park with her a bit. Fun!!!

We snuggled up on the picnic blanket while the steaks cooked, looked at the stars and a beautiful view through the oak trees... soo nice!! The park was FULL of deer so big groups of deer kept walking by us, some of them really close. Even got to see a few baby ones.

H then gave me a card (second card this BD!) and said "I know I NEVER get you a card from the dog but she insisted on getting you one this year." \:\) He'd written a note in it "from" her about how she got me a pig ear but accidentally ate it on her way to give it to me.. sooo sweet and funny. He even drew a perfect little paw print signature. I laughed and gave him a kiss and he leaned down to the dog and said "See [her name]? I told ya Mom would like it."

It was totally dark by the time we ate so we ate our steaks and drank our wine in nearly complete darkness, which was a lot of fun. A big group of deer came up right behind us while we were eating - the first group that the dog actually noticed. She jumped up to "defend" us and took a step towards them - all the deer took of running FAST - literally you could feel their feet hitting the ground. We worried for a minute that they saw a mountain lion because surely they weren't running from our 20 lb. dog! She was of course sure it was all her, and kept kinda "strutting" around the blanket, totally hilarious.

We cleaned up after dinner and snuggled on the blanket awhile longer, just talking and enjoying the night. H kept talking about how he was glad he picked that particular spot and how romantic it was. \:\) I agreed and pointed out positives about it that he hadn't even noticed.

Then I saw a shadow of something walking towards us. We had a little moonlight but that was it so it was very hard to see. The critter was definitely walking RIGHT towards us - much bigger than a cat, but small for a raccoon. I pointed it out to H and we started watching a bit closer - then when it finally turned its head a bit I saw the white stripe - it was a SKUNK!! And I think it was after our leftovers.

I pointed it out and H goes "time to go!" then says "OMG there are a whole bunch of them!" He jumped up like he was going to chase them off and I said "Wait, don't chase it!" H said "Good point!" and was making all these funny hissing type noises trying to scare them. Wasn't working at all, they were still coming towards us and the first one was getting way too close for comfort (20 feet away, maybe?). We were about to abandon our stuff entirely when I remembered a coworkers story of how on hikes they avoid bears by talking, singing, basically being REALLY noisy so they know you're there. So... I started singing loudly "Nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah nah, hey hey hey, GOOOOD BYE skunks.. nah nah nah nah..." really loud. H looked at me like I was a complete lunatic then looked up and saw the skunks high-tailing it the other direction \:D so he sang another "verse" with me and we had a great laugh about it. We left shortly after that anyway but it was a fun little "end" to our picnic.

Got home and I had a few BD calls to return so I did that, then got online briefly and read all the wonderful wishes here and on FB (thank you all sooo much!!). Then H and I talked about how nice the night had been and how even the skunks added to the entertainment, we should eat in the park more often, things like that. Went to bed and had fun . Just before going to sleep I said to H "Hmmm maybe 35 won't be so bad after all, good start to it for sure." I thanked him again for making my whole weekend and day so wonderful.

So, that was my birthday! Well, almost. Tonight dinner out with my Mom, tomorrow with a good friend, and next Monday with my Dad and sis.. so I'm stretching it out awhile longer!

Glad to have SUCH a wonderful day. Talk about a difference from last year. \:D

Nikki,
I love the sound of things for you! Happy belated birthday! It has been such a long time since being on the boards, I just wanted to say hello to a few old friends.
Things are much improved in my sitch, not out of the woods but moving that way it seems.
