Could be, but also could be the diabetes - people with diabetes sometimes have problems with their intestines not moving correctly, etc.

Make sure his thyroid gets checked too.

dfb - I think he was talking about having taken OW fishing in the past - not about going with her now!

btw, dfb - ran across some articles about the high rate of hypothyroidism in guys with gout - think you could get your H tested?

Ellie - I thought he was talking about taking her fishing now! Is that not correct, Deb? If I am wrong, then forget some of what I said, anyway!

I don't know much about hypothyroidism, but I'll look it up - if you have the articles, definitely email them to me! Thank you!!!!!!

Hello Dr. Ellie,

I missed posting my last thyroid numbers. Too bad as I had the T3 for those. I do have my new ones though -- Free T4 = .8 and TSH = 1.4. I'm feeling pretty good except for my back and hips, so I think reducing the levoxyl worked out OK. How weird is that?

Baby is due in a little more than 4 weeks Got good news this week -- she had been pretty big, just over the 90th percentile, but now she's down to the 71st percentile So, I might not be induced as early or induced at all and the chances of a C-section are reduced.

We got a 3-D ultrasound -- pretty cool. She has lots of hair already. What do you think about cord blood banking?

I know as a political issue, public cord blood banking is the way to go. And, I think I could do that at my hospital. I also know that there is very little chance that the cord blood would ever help the baby (though maybe a sibling) and won't be enough quantity wise to help an adult. I even think the private cord blood banks are an exploitive racket. Still, I'm leaning toward plunking down the $2000 or so it takes for private banking. It would just be soooo horrible not to have done it if it is ever needed. What do you think?

And, 50 had better be the new 30 given how young my kids will be when I hit the big five-oh

All best,
Oldtimer

If you're feeling good, I wouldn't change anything. Your FT4 is towards the low end of the normal range but your requirements will drop when you deliver the baby - and that baby's making their own thyroid hormone by now.

Did you see on my thread that my hypothyroid little sister is unexpectedly pregnant at 43? She's hoping 50 is the new 30 also!!!! Her H is 56!!!

I think you just listed all the reasons why public cord blood banking is a good idea. I'd be inclined to put the $2,000 into a college fund instead.

Is Sage gonna send you all her old baby clothes?

Hi Ellie and all, I just have a minute to post, I'm so far behind at work, and my computer has crashed and I'm on a borrowed one...
any way, I'm doing ok. S13 is doing amazingly well, I am so impressed with that kid. He was so awfully sick when I got him to the hospital. his blood sugar was about 700 and there's another number of a type of protein in the blood (I think) that should be no more than 6 or 7....it was 14. I understand that is an indicator of ketosis being at a toxic level. Anyway, the kid stepped right up to the plate, by the next day was doing his own injections, does his blood sugar as a kind of science experiment, counts his carbs faithfully, and has just blown away everybody with how well he's doing, much better than most adults. He had a dr's appt today, has gained 17 lbs in the week. that is how dehydrated he was. The exciting thing is I got him an insulin pump ordered today. I have spent entire days on the phone trying to get this worked out with insurance, etc., and finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

H is better, I think. He called me at home everyday this week that I was with S (SIL and D are with him today)....called back when he didn't reach us....said "i sure love you guys"....and seems warmer towards me, although work is very much stressing him out right now. and of course home is stressful. But, S13 is SO much better....we are enjoying his "old self"...the wise cracks and 13 y.o. smirks, etc., so that helps.

dfb, it was in the past that H took monster fishing....I really believe at this point I'd throw him out if he was doing it now. It's been hard for me, and we've had a lot of discussions, because he had to "do paperwork" 2 saturdays ago...I believe that is probably what he was doing this time, but it was still terribly hard. The difference is this time I do check his schedule, and he is booked every hour. before he used to give the me paperwork spiel, and his days were mostly empty. dead giveaway there. I also got pretty riled up because he was talking about all the money he spent on her birthday last year (@#$%**!)and about the "trinket" he got her on vacation last august....drives me nuts, still. I just hate it. Also, recently H hacked into her dating personal website.....told me about her comments, many of which really ticked him off....she was talking about having to breakup with her "spineless fiance" @#%%##!!!!!!!!!!!! ; the nerve....but he also read an email from one of the guys that contacted her, saying he didnt think she was over H, and she agreed. sheeeesh.
Plus, H responded to the emails from the guys.....in a not good way. I dont' like that he did that. And I hate that he would call monster for medical info when I was at the hospital with S13, which I'm still sure he did.

But, H was in tears as S and I left for the hospital, maybe that is part of why he didnt go. and last night he told me that he knew from the look on S13's face that he believed he was dying and would never see his dad again. still brings tears to my eyes.

I am so overjoyed about the insulin pump, it will make such a difference in his long-term prognosis. and S13 is excited. he already calls it his artificil pancreas.

Deb -
You're awesome, girlfriend.
Here's to them discovering a cure for diabetes, eh? (And how about a cure for MLC while they're at it? ).

Hopefully this all is giving H a wakeup call as to what REALLY matters in life.

Don't forget about checking all those other things I told you about.

Hey,

Remember, 50 is the new 30. 40 must be the new 28 (who would want to be much younger than that anyway...)

Yes, I saw about your sis. Hopefully, I'll be knocked up again when I'm 43, if one can be "knocked up" on purpose

We have so many baby clothes already it is crazy We've been hitting the sales for awhile. I have been waiting to buy tiny pink clothes for a LONG TIME We also got a 3D/4D ultrasound. So, we have pics and video of the baby smiling, etc...

BTW, I keep thinking the same thing about the cord blood banking -- put the money in a college fund. Still torn though, emotionally if not rationally I guess. Especially if I think of it as $2000 for cord blood versus $2000 for a vacation rather than the college fund...

All best,
Oldtimer
