Hey, stranger! Great job on the surprise tickets and the brilliant question.

I don't think you have to worry about having a lot of those questions lined up. I'm guessing that you'll only need to use them occasionally. Still, it's a good reminder to change the subject away from the daily grind of obligations. You can always borrow Des's Scruples game if you need more questions. Or there's the wide open, "Tell me something about yourself that I don't know."

Surely "Little Sailor" doesn't need another name?

I dunno. Michele Brooklyn has a certain ring...

I think it was Baba Wawa who asked, "If you were a twee, what kind of twee would you be?" Not good enough? Okie doke.

"What CDs would you want with you if marooned on an island?" More?? You ask for more???

My best shot: "Is altruism possible or is there always personal interest at some level?"

I am spent.

OK, I'm new to this board, but had to suggest a conversational question...if they made a movie all about your life, what movie star would play you? You could also extend this to all the characters in your lives. It doesn't exactly tap into hopes and dreams. But it isn't threatening.

I pulled his Yankees cap out of my bag and he lit up like a Christmas tree.

I got my PT in spades - he was all over me at the game, clutching my hand, putting his arm around me, kissing my cheek, having his hand on my knee, falling over himself to get me what I wanted... so i have to chalk it up to a major success. He was so happy!

So, we learned a little more about SO's love languages, didn't we? Earlier, we saw that Quality Time is one (because he wanted you to come sit with him while he worked - SO like my H!). Now we see that Gifts may be his other (again, like my H - did I ever tell you how I bought H everything on his list for Xmas, while the OW bought him nada? I didn't even know about OW then, but that was her first big mistake).

So in addition to asking for all these great conversation starters, let's start thinking about more ways to meet his needs for Quality Time and Gifts, shall we???

BTW - has he seen Fever Pitch yet? It's out on video now - Drew Barrymore and Jimmy Fallon - a chick flick about baseball fanaticism - perfect combo for the two of you .

Glad to see you back Jennifer and that things are a little better. My son was born 23rd October (almost 14 years ago). It was fantastic. He kept us waiting for two weeks though...

Take care

Jennifer-

I'm really happy it went well.

Sorry if I smoked you out by posting here and caused you to use time on the BB other than somewhere else that may be more productive in your life right now. But maybe you belong here from time to to me. I like the synergistic possibilites!

1) The Question: If there were three people throughout history you could invite to dinner--including anyone liviing today, who would you choose and why?

Btw, Merrick is a not good baby name, but I would suggest a version of Mary.

If my recollection is correct, you have been baptised and Mary is the perfect example of faith, grace, and acceptance of something bigger than her that she could not fully comprehend, but better understood as time went by. I think this embodies your R with the SO and what your baby girl needs from you; she'll accept you and SO as loving parents and put complete faith in you.

Of course, knowiig how lyrical you are, Mary might be a bit old-fashioned, so you may prefer a variation like Marisa or Maria--assuming that's not Swiss Miss's name! I also have a lot of people you don't know praying for you and Seth to make this work.

Keep on fighting the good fight.

Lurker HP here again, J.

My H is the KING of these types of questions! I wish I had written them down so that I could give you, like, a year's supply of them and wouldn't you look like a queen.

These questions seem to be an escape for him...QT with a really fun twist..dreaming with a little escapist fantasy thrown in.

Ok, here goes:

If you could live in one place anywhere on earth, where would it be and why?

If you could only eat one nation's food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

What does your dream house look like? Can you draw a picture of the layout?

What period of time would you like to live in?

If you won the lottery, (pick any ol astronomical figure) how would you divide the money? How much to family and friends? What would be the first place you went? Would you ever come back?

What is your ultimate Christmas present?

What is the best meal you've ever eaten?

What was the best Christmas present ever received?

Did you have a favorite teacher?

ETC ETC.

Yes we've gone over most of these, several times, as he forgets which ones he's already asked.

I've learned a lot about him with his 'questions'.
I think the key is that the scenarios are ridiculously happy and fun. Sometimes he would try things like, If a bear was attacking you, what would you do? but my sissy-girl tendencies got in the way and those never turned out that well.

Oh and since S sounds an awful lot like H, personality wise, I will tell you something else he likes: When I tell him a story that he's never heard before, about me.
I make sure to bring out my best storyteller voice and make it worth his while. He especially likes childhood stories, as opposed to "Once when I was right out of college, I went to a bar and and had one too many kamikazes and THEN....." LOL
It is the novelty..learning something new about me and telling me something new about him that he likes.

Good luck; I'm keeping tabs on you because I had an October baby last year so you automatically win points with me for that reason. Hang in there; I remember all too clearly how it felt this time last year. Right now, my walking and talking baby is coming up to me and giving me a big smile so there are lots of wonderful things in your future.

Take care,
Honey
