i am asking at my drs appt tonight if there is a like an anti anxiety fast activing med i could take in these situations but any ideas for the rest of the day????

HELP!!!!

Posted By: qoe100 Re: HELP! HELP! HELP! - 09/25/08 01:42 PM
Try not to look at their face. When you talk to them look over their shoulder at a specific point. When looking at the entire class, pick a point over their heads to focus on.

Hope this helps.....

My D's afraid of them too.

HAHAHA....oh Sweetie I don't mean to laugh because I know that these phobias are very real. It's just that you do have a way with words!

I think that what Jill suggested was very good advice. Don't engage. Look anywhere you need to to find your comfort level and talk yourself down. I know easier said then done.

I wish I understood more then maybe I could offer is real advice!

Love,
Bethie

Um picture them naked!

UM maybe not, you have older students, and those HS boys don't look like they used to look, when we were in High School and I think that Coco will get upset if you become Mary Kay laterno.

SOOOOOOOOOO

Anti clown prayers?

Aren't these type of things supposed to be on your resume?

And don't they know you don't trick or treat b/c of this.

And rememebr when you saw a clown and you were in my car?

and

i am going to cry about them thinking I am dressed like a clown

i feel a little sick
Posted By: qoe100 Re: HELP! HELP! HELP! - 09/25/08 01:54 PM
Go to your car between classes. Drink whiskey.

Always keep a bottle in the car for these very occasions......

You don't flip out on "wear your clothes backwards" day, do ya?
Posted By: BigHands Re: HELP! HELP! HELP! - 09/25/08 01:57 PM
Figgilicious!!!

They don't get clothes that aren't bib overalls and work boots. You smelled that smell this morning. Do you think people who smell that and think it's money even know that burberry is a word? (I didn't until you taught me.) DO NOT let others' lack of appreciation cramp your inimitable style.

As for the clowns, I've got a knife.

I'd go with the whiskey suggestion.

Oh don't worry about their remarks. They probably didn't mean anything bad by it. Sometimes people are just making small talk.
I can't believe you got anything Burberry that cheap! My scarf was way more than your whole skirt! Concentrate on that. That in itself is pretty darn cool!

I say when in "clown town" be a clown..When a clown approaches you , step on their foot, poke them in the eye, squirt water on them.

If that don't work then the whiskey suggestion is pretty good..

I'll also advice an emergency medical anti-clown kit be stowed somewhere close by in case this particuliar clown festival happens to be an annual event.. Of course Xanax and whiskey would be the main ingrediants. Throw in Advil for the headache and your good to go in "Clownville"

Figgy,
I just so happen to share your same phobia about CLOWNS. There are only 2 things in my life I am absolutely scared of and they are Clowns and Rats. The worst was when I was in St thomas and looked down the alley and Saw a rat the size of a Jack Russell creep out from underneath a clown hat left from the Carnivale celebration. Yipes!!! It took hours of bar therapy to overcome that image!
Anyway, what helps with me it to think of that loveable chronic clown in the Simpsons KRUSTY. His foul mouthed, smoking exterior takes the edge off the giddy demonic appearance of most clowns. So there.
On the fashion sense, I think BH is right, I think if I drove about 20 miles outside of portland and on a mountain road and tried to sell BURberry. I am sure most would respond with "A'int it too late in the year to pick dem?" Or "Can you make a pie or jam out of dem?"
Revel in your fashion sense and find granduer that you can replay a "sick" version of "Pretty in PInk". A teacher no less in the leading role...just simply stated...rocks! peace

I am not a psychiatrist, and I dont play one on TV, but I wonder if you watched Killer Clowns from Outer Space whether that might be enough dark humor to release the phobia of clowns. However, that may have the opposite effect and just make you even less trusting of clowns.

My phobia was slugs and I would have nightmares of falling into a pool filled with slugs and suffocating because the slime blocks my breathing. I watched a local movie called "The Slug that Ate Portland". In the end, they forced the slug into the ocean and the salt killed it. I cant say how much my phobia is cured, but whenever I see a slug in my garden now, I go out of my way to get some salt. I hope I dont offend any slug lovers, but I hate slugs! - they seem like naked snails.
Posted By: fig Re: HELP! HELP! HELP! - 09/25/08 06:27 PM
they are so naked snails

i hate clowns

Figgy I'm afraid of clowns to.I just don't trust grown ass men in makeup around kids.

I work at McDonalds.Every 3 or 4 months Ronald comes to the store.Everyone knows I'm afraid of him.So they think it is funny to get him to come and try to give me a hug.Ummmm I broke out in tears.

The last time I was in drive thru and he came by.I almost climbed out the window. But the lady in the car was to big and I couldn't fit in her lap.

i cried 3 times and threw up a little one time

then i went to the dr for my diabetes check up
and
my blood sugar was elevated

i told them about the clowns and my new dr laughed

i am put on a new medication

he said i was probably allergic to the other kind which miht be why i could never take the whole dosage or i threw up and had tummy problems all day

so

i am on a new med

i asked for a xanax and he laughed and told me to go have a stiff drink but mix it with dt pop!!!

maybe i will have both ;\)
Posted By: lodo Re: HELP! HELP! HELP! - 09/26/08 03:01 AM
my great-uncle was a country doctor and he swore by burnt toast for upset stomachs. I guess it's like activated charcoal and settles your stomach. I could never handle eating burnt toast, so he used to scrape the burnt part off into a glass of water and had me drink that.

It always worked!
Posted By: Trip Re: HELP! HELP! HELP! - 09/26/08 04:45 PM
Figgy, so glad you went to the doctor. And new meds, that's good. maybe that will help with your anxiety too. I would guess having your blood sugar issues affects that a lot. maybe not though because I know nothing.

my dr says it does

and lissie said

"THANK YOU JEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESUS" when she heard they switched my meds

hopefully they will work better

and
why everyone should love me

ack
i am going over the edge
and
i can't stand it

this place is losing the message of helping people

if all you want to do is hear the sound of your own voice
then go listen to yourself
don't post on a HELPING BOARD about your shite

ugh

i mean

I am just frustrated and tired of feeling small

so

i am making my voice loud

someday maybe i will find a happy medium

but it irks me that a place that was my solace and my sanity has turned into fricken abacrombie and fitch with there dark store, loud booming music and and gagging perfume to cover up the fact that they have a bad selection and poor qualtiy clothes made probably by fingerless children in some 3rd world country making 4 cents a day

Thuggy,
"SING ON SWEET SOUL SISTA!" I had to exclaim that because as I was reading your rant, I heard bellowing Soul Gospel music thumping with each word. I am not going to elaborate much on this because I have had my own fingers and lips clipped in the past when I allowed some thoughts out that shouldn't have been but I do want say something..
Quote:

I understand the feelings of frustration but YOU feeling small? Thuggy, you rock! and your rantings and ravings bring somewhat crystal clear musings of the late Sam Kinison. You are anything but small , voice or not. You gave me a snicker with the Ambercrombie reference and gagging perfume. I hope your never find a "happy medium" because you and BH rise to the top each and every day with me...I am #1 on your fan club...which brings up the fact...I still haven't received my commerative Thuggy and BH dinnerware set just yet....I am still waiting...
Shrug off the clowns, the blood sugar and DR's and they're insipid way of catergorizing weight....I gotta go... my recently tailored suit by some fingerless child is waiting for me at the post office but keep riding, keep chiding and keep grinning...peace

OMG, you are all making me laugh!!! Figgy, yes, we've been frustrated down to our last nerve but it will get better.

You have the craziest sense of humor of anyone I've ever known and it'll get you through every time. You really ought to work up an act and start hitting the comedy clubs cuz you'd be a sensation!!!

Besides.......we have alternatives, ya know...... ;\)
Posted By: BigHands Re: HELP! HELP! HELP! - 09/27/08 01:57 AM
Alternatives? Really? Noooooooo!

She looked hilarious wearing that stuff, with a banana in her mouth. It was funny. One of her fellow teachers was not quite as amused. And, it's awful handy living less than 1/2 a block from the school.

The dance sure does sound lame tonight, though.
Posted By: lodo Re: HELP! HELP! HELP! - 09/27/08 02:18 AM
uhhh .... you sound like a walking banana split! Do they really want you to chaperone?!

I know KarenMarieS agrees with your rant ... I'm going to somewhat respectfully disagree, but I'll tell you why. Perhaps I misunderstood it - it's couched in what seems like many inside jokes. I haven't been here that long - just under a year. Since I've moved to Survivors, I've gotten some great advice and I really appreciate it. It's helped tremendously.

I've also read a lot of complaints about how great things used to be and how crappy it is now. That may be true, but I don't know that. No offense, but some come across as the crotchety old man up the street.

To be honest, there have been times when I'm not sure what I would have done without the understanding and advice from other folks on this BB. Maybe some of the old-timers think it's crappy, or that one person is posting ridiculous things, but for newcomers it's still a lifeline, and a place that predominantly offers support no matter who you are.

Democracies are wonderful, aren't they? All of us are dumber than one of us. We'll never agree. But we have the freedom to not agree. Thanks for continuing to post advice, it is most appreciated. I understand your frustration - hello, MWD, SG, haven't you heard of web 2.0?!! The rest of the world has left you in the DUST!! We're all going onto FB now, where personal messages are allowed!!! - but I think you should balance that personal frustration with the value of the support and help that's being given. Sure, individuals can be frustrating. But what's the point in letting that get to you? It's the nature of dialogue to tend towards argument, it's the skill that prevents you from a fight.

I don't have the experience of you guys - just an uninformed impression of someone stumbling through the threads while he tries to make sense of his own sitch. Just thought, in the nature of participation, I'd give my own $.02.

take care - thanks for posting to me. lodo

I understand that you dont understand, and its something I sure do not want to bring up , maybe someone else will

If someone tho, who didnt know you, didnt know you from Adam- took what you hold very dear to your heart , lets say your role as a father, not sure if you are or not, and disrespected it, for what reason you have no idea. Jealousy, bitterness, ignorance, all of the above, and ripped apart everything that mean a lot to you, heritage, religion, name called you because the courts/ the law allowed you to collect spousal support and belittled you, Well, lets just say , you would get fed up w/ so called person too.

Be warned.

Hi-jack away

and
the dance was lame until they made me dance

so i made them play 50cent

i am the biggest bit of flava up in here since ...well...ever i guess

lodo
its ok to disagree...i understand completely and sometimes i feel like a crotchity old woman like my grandma's neighbor Viola, God rest ehr soul, who used to scream at me from across the street...don't you even THINK of coming over her and stepping in my flowers. I was like 4 and not allowed to cross the street but she would wave her rake or whatnot at me all the time

as a little kid i wanted to stick my tongue out at her
but my grandma would have whacked me with a broom

i digress

i am totally cool and ok with people disagreeing
i think it is healthy that we all can have different opinions

what i take issues with
are
the people who believe there opinion is the RIGHT opinion, not just for them but for the universe

those kind of megalomanics who believe the world revolves around then

i take issue with people who lie about their experiences and their life and portray themselves as someone they are not

i take issue with people who come to a help board and freak out when someone questions what they are doing and then just says don't post to me

i mean
if you believe something
you should be fine with people who don't agree
you should be ok with answering

i am just tired of people who are on a help board but don't seem to want to help themselves, just everyone else.

they spout the retoric but there are no balls to the wall
you know

i don't like not being able to come the defense of a friend

i don't like the favoritism that plays itself out

back in the day
we fought hard to improve ourselves
and by hard
i mean
hard

we took the DB principles to heart and worked on ourselves

the trip from newcomers to survivng took awhile
we weren't dating before the ink was dry
we weren't fixing outselves for anyone other than us
(at least the little group i was with)

i don't know
maybe it is disenchantement
disappointment
all those other dis words

siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh

and
i smell like sweat
because my milkshake is better than yours
and
i shook my moneymaker

and
shocked my students
and
made them laugh

and
now i am tired

and
i am still blinking syrup out of my eyes

when you tell a story I just see it so clearly in my minds eye.
Posted By: qoe100 Re: HELP! HELP! HELP! - 09/27/08 10:56 AM
I'm going to blunt here. It's a specific individual that has a lot of people in a snit. She's insulted "most women" in one way or another. Pull up some of her previous threads and you'll get the gist. The "Peach Tree" thread is a doozy where she went completely bonkers!!! Others have long ago been deleted. But I digress.....

She's very opinionated and if you disagree or challenge her you're "respectfully asked not to post to her." Some of the women here are not allowed to post to her at this point. If you'll notice, she mostly posts to men. She's droned on for years about politics, humongo client, her ethnic superiority, her very important (yet mind numbingly boring) work, adoption, her education (paid for by very tolerant parents), etc. Now, it's about having a R. She's wanted a R, despite the fact she claims she doesn't, for years and still hasn't even had a date. She's insulted SAHMs, women that collect alimoney, religion, people who are not affiliated with the same political party, people who are not as educated as she is and on and on. This has all taken place over the years.

She's very good to the "newbies" that join this forum because they're the only ones who will talk to her. In time, they'll be asked not to post to her either if they dare have the audacity to challenge her thoughts. For the most part, she blogs here about every detail of her life. She's been asked not to by the moderators, yet continues.

So, there it is, out in the open.

Thank you j or q or whoever you are this week for that fine summation.

"but some come across as the crotchety old man up the street"

And I take my role very seriously and if you want to disagree with me, that is ok. This forum should and has supported open, intellectual, honest debate.

And, yes, I absolutely agree with you, so many of us would never have made if through without the support, understanding and straight on advice we needed but did not want to hear.

But I feel much of the support and openness of the bb is gone.

I also feel, as stated by many others, the censors have gone too far in their undefined roles to protect certain individuals and to quickly censor others.

My thoughts.

ps One day fig I must hear about this school of yours, not quite like any school I teach at.

lodo
Please also understand, we are not mean spirited people, geeze never thought myself as so, and def I know J is not or Fig and I am sure Dogma is not crotchety lol

Personally i did not get on any bandwagon to throw spears at this person I have been on the board, prolly over 5 yrs now, a year after ex walked out- I have to say that 99.99% of the people here are sincere, wonderful, caring, thoughtful people!

Amazing actually, and is MWD for this site and her books - even w/ my family and friends I wouldnt of been able to get up each morning 6 yrs ago if not for the people here, they are truely Godsends.
Never posted to this person, take that back once years ago, re: politics, told her i LOVED her post! I agreed.
Never did after her posts were all about politics and its something I dont like to talk about, too touchy and not the place. Then a few months ago, I hear she mentioned me by name in a negaive way ( natrually!) and said something about J and I having words w/ her. SAY WHAT??

Now I have always been taught growing up, to be respectful to others and mind your manners, BUT if anyone disrepects you, your family of friends, free reign
I called her on it, of course was told not to post to her lol
Tried to be somewhat nice, to try to understand, nope, and in fact got told she may "think" of giving us an apology.
I'm sorry, dont bother.

So you see, I guess we are upset because a lot of wonderful people are leaving this board,I guess lucky for MWD we dont pay or she'd be out some pocket change by now.

Its not the board per say that is amazing its the people and the people can go elsewhere if they are not welcome here.

ok enough and I am sure figgys thread wants to return to other subjects lol
Off to enjoy my Saturday and my son whos home from school this weekend! yeah!

Have a good one all!

You're a good girl!!! I did 2 loads of laundry and then sat around a read for awhile. Bio of Grace Slick. I think I was a hard rockin' chick in a former life.........

Are the cats peeing on your clothes??? That's a heck of a lot of laundry. Course, I spose it's normal when you're a fashionista, right?

Wow, Fig.

Just read to get to know you, because you posted on my thread. You sound like a hoot and a good teacher. I remember when I was a newcomer, there was a lot of good advice and even when I moved to Surviving, I got a lot of good advice. Also, I know I gave what I got. This site was a great benefit to me. It helped me grow past my obstacles in my D.

I agree with the people who said you give us great visuals. Amazing.
