Sometimes when someone has had so many loses and serious illness around them they put up walls. They don't ever want to feel that kind of pain again so they only let people get so close. They also use escapism to cope. Eg. Gambling, drinking, drugs ect. It sounds to me that your H. Has been doing this. It is awful for you. You were open and vulnerable. An open door to his almost shut door. My ex lost his Mother at a young age and I know he also used work to escape and prevent too much closeness. He wanted it and fought it at the same time. A battle that is within them. One we can't win.

Quite a lot of this masks depression. H has been a gambler since he was 17 so it's rather more an out of control addiction. As far as I am aware no drugs or pills though, but at the moment nothing would surprise me!
I wonder what other lies he is hiding.
H is very secretive.everyone loses with this addiction. A racist man with bad habits and I did not know. The antithesis of everything I believe in. H had a mask and now it's off.
I am annoyed with myself for not walking away before I married him.

I am annoyed I wasted the prime years of my life, with someone who really didn't give a crapola about me. Everything is about him, it's about him and his wants needs, from which he dropped crumbs.
Lies were so automatic from h he even believed them. He didn't appreciate anything let alone my value, h doesn't value anyone as he doesn't even like himself.

Do you know today I was reflecting on party goers of yore, HP, Little, Goat Gal and musing on where they were and how they were doing. Yore is not so long ago, well not as far as times past or even of daysgoneby. The time here has gone so fast, I notice the thread count rising and the number of posts increasing.
There was a time in daysgoneby when I knew very small amounts about R and abuse. I just wish sometimes I could be that party goer again, but here we are enjoying heese over the Internet!

Hi V. Annoyed is a very British response.
We all wear masks but don't feel bad for not seeing through it. I've found myself plenty if tines defending people because what they are saying is so far from what I believe that I then don't believe they mean it. I've been very wrong and that includes with my close family.
